Answers and explanations for all 10 questions

Every answer with the reasoning behind it. Worth reading after you have tried the set — or on its own, if you are a parent marking it.

  1. What kind of angle measures 120°?

    Answer: Obtuse

An angle between 90° and 180° is obtuse, and 120° falls in that range.

  2. What kind of angle measures 65°?

    Answer: Acute

An angle smaller than 90° is acute, and 65° is smaller than 90°.

  3. Two angles sit on a straight line. One measures 130°. What does the other measure?

    Answer: 50°

    Angles on a straight line add up to 180°, so 180° − 130° = 50°.

  4. Three angles meet at a point. Two of them are 150° and 90°. What is the third?

    Answer: 120°

    Angles at a point add up to 360°: 150° + 90° = 240°, and 360° − 240° = 120°.

  5. How many degrees are there in a quarter turn?

    Answer: 90°

    A full turn is 360°, so a quarter turn is 360° ÷ 4 = 90°.

  6. Through how many degrees does the minute hand of a clock turn in 15 minutes?

    Answer: 90°

The minute hand turns 360° in an hour, so in a quarter of an hour it turns 90°.

  7. How many right angles are there in a rectangle?

    Answer: 4

A rectangle has a right angle at each of its 4 corners.

  8. Two angles on a straight line are equal. What does each one measure?

    Answer: 90°

They add to 180° and are equal, so each is 180° ÷ 2 = 90°.

  9. Which of these angles is the smallest?

    Answer: 35°

    35° is the smallest of 35°, 53°, 89° and 95°.

  10. A dancer facing north turns clockwise through 270°. Which direction is she facing now?

    Answer: West

270° clockwise is three quarter turns: north to east to south to west.
