    She started with what she spent plus what remained: $48 + $27 = $75.

  17. Ken and Lila have $96 altogether. Ken has $18 more than Lila. How much does Ken have?

    Take away the extra $18: $96 − $18 = $78, which splits into two equal shares of $39. Ken has $39 + $18 = $57.
