Every answer with the reasoning behind it. Worth reading after you have tried the set — or on its own, if you are a parent marking it.

  1. Which of these numbers is a multiple of 6?

    Answer: 42

    6 × 7 = 42, so 42 is a multiple of 6.

  2. Which of these numbers is NOT a multiple of 4?

    Answer: 22

    4 × 5 = 20 and 4 × 6 = 24, so 22 is not in the 4 times table.

  3. What is the 5th multiple of 8?

    Answer: 40

    5 × 8 = 40.

  4. Which of these numbers is a multiple of both 2 and 5?

    Answer: 20

20 is even, so it is a multiple of 2, and it ends in 0, so it is a multiple of 5.

  5. 9 × ? = 63

    Answer: 7

    63 ÷ 9 = 7, and 9 × 7 = 63.

  6. How many 6s make 54?

    Answer: 9

    54 ÷ 6 = 9, so nine 6s make 54.

  7. Which of these numbers is a multiple of 10?

    Answer: 150

    Every multiple of 10 ends in 0, and 10 × 15 = 150.

  8. How many multiples of 3 are there between 10 and 20?

    Answer: 3

    Between 10 and 20 the multiples of 3 are 12, 15 and 18 — three of them.

  9. What is the smallest multiple of 7 that is greater than 50?

    Answer: 56

    7 × 7 = 49, which is too small, and 7 × 8 = 56, the first one over 50.

  10. Which of these numbers is a multiple of 9?

    Answer: 63

    9 × 7 = 63.
