A rectangle is 8 cm long and 5 cm wide. What is its perimeter?
Answer: 26 cm
Perimeter = 8 + 5 + 8 + 5 = 26 cm.
A rectangle is 8 cm long and 5 cm wide. What is its area?
Answer: 40 cm²
Area = 8 × 5 = 40 cm².
A square has sides of 7 cm. What is its perimeter?
Answer: 28 cm
A square has 4 equal sides: 4 × 7 = 28 cm.
A square has an area of 36 cm². How long is each side?
Answer: 6 cm
The side times itself must give 36, and 6 × 6 = 36, so each side is 6 cm.
What is the area of a rectangle measuring 12 cm by 3 cm?
Answer: 36 cm²
12 × 3 = 36 cm².
The perimeter of a rectangle is 30 cm. Its length is 9 cm. What is its width?
Answer: 6 cm
Half the perimeter is one length plus one width: 30 ÷ 2 = 15, then 15 − 9 = 6 cm.
Which rectangle has the largest area?
Answer: 5 cm × 8 cm
5 cm × 8 cm = 40 cm², which beats 36 cm², 30 cm² and 24 cm².
A rectangular garden is 15 m long and 10 m wide. A fence is put all the way round it. What length of fence is needed?
Answer: 50 m
15 + 10 + 15 + 10 = 50 m of fence.
A square has a perimeter of 24 cm. What is its area?
Answer: 36 cm²
Each side is 24 ÷ 4 = 6 cm, so the area is 6 × 6 = 36 cm².
How many 1 cm² tiles are needed to cover a rectangle measuring 7 cm by 4 cm exactly?
Answer: 28
