A television costs $250. It is sold at 20% off. What is the sale price?
Answer: $200
20% of $250 is $50, and $250 − $50 = $200.
A meal costs $80 before GST. With 9% GST added, what is the total bill?
Answer: $87.20
9% of $80 is $7.20, so the bill is $80 + $7.20 = $87.20.
After a 20% discount, a bag costs $64. What was its original price?
Answer: $80.00
$64 is 80% of the original, so 1% is $0.80 and 100% is $80.00.
A school had 250 pupils. The number rose by 12%. How many pupils are there now?
Answer: 280
12% of 250 is 30, so the school now has 250 + 30 = 280 pupils.
The price of a phone fell from $600 to $480. By what percentage did it fall?
Answer: 20%
The fall is $120, and 120/600 = 1/5 = 20%.
In a test of 80 marks, Sara scored 68. What percentage did she score?
Answer: 85%
68/80 = 0.85 = 85%.
35% of the pupils in a school are boys. There are 210 boys. How many pupils are in the school?
Answer: 600
35% is 210, so 1% is 6 and 100% is 600 pupils.
A jacket costs $40. It is reduced by 15%, then 9% GST is added to the reduced price. What is the final price?
Answer: $37.06
15% off $40 leaves $34. 9% of that is $3.06, giving $37.06.
What is 37.5% of 320?
Answer: 120
37.5% is 3/8, and 320 ÷ 8 × 3 = 120.
Which of these is the largest?
