A car travels 240 km in 3 hours. What is its average speed?
Answer: 80 km/h
Speed = distance ÷ time = 240 ÷ 3 = 80 km/h.
A train travels at 60 km/h for 4 hours. How far does it travel?
Answer: 240 km
Distance = speed × time = 60 × 4 = 240 km.
A coach travels 350 km at an average speed of 70 km/h. How long does the journey take?
Answer: 5 h
Time = distance ÷ speed = 350 ÷ 70 = 5 hours.
A jogger runs 900 m in 15 minutes. What is her speed in metres per minute?
Answer: 60 m/min
900 ÷ 15 = 60 m/min.
6 kg of rice costs $18. What is the cost of 1 kg?
Answer: $3.00
$18 ÷ 6 = $3.00 per kilogram.
A machine fills 45 bottles an hour. How many bottles does it fill in 7 hours?
Answer: 315
45 × 7 = 315 bottles.
A cyclist covers 180 km in 90 minutes. What is his average speed in km/h?
Answer: 120 km/h
90 minutes is 1.5 hours, and 180 ÷ 1.5 = 120 km/h.
A bus travels at 80 km/h. How far does it travel in 45 minutes?
Answer: 60 km
45 minutes is 3/4 of an hour, and 3/4 × 80 = 60 km.
A tap fills a tank with 24 litres of water in 8 minutes. At this rate, how much water flows in 20 minutes?
Answer: 60 ℓ
24 ÷ 8 = 3 litres a minute, and 3 × 20 = 60 ℓ.
A driver travels 120 km, then a further 150 km. The whole journey takes 3 hours. What is her average speed?
Answer: 90 km/h
Total distance 270 km ÷ 3 h = 90 km/h.
