  1. What is 25% of 480?

    Answer: 120

    25% is a quarter, and 480 ÷ 4 = 120.

  2. Express 3/5 as a percentage.

    Answer: 60%

    3/5 = 6/10 = 60/100, which is 60%.

  3. Write 0.08 as a percentage.

    Answer: 8%

    0.08 × 100 = 8, so 0.08 is 8%.

  4. What is 15% of 640?

    Answer: 96

    10% of 640 is 64 and 5% is 32, so 15% is 64 + 32 = 96.

  5. A bag costs $80. In a sale it is sold at 20% off. What is the sale price?

    Answer: $64

    20% of $80 is $16, and $80 − $16 = $64.

  6. In a test, Meiling scored 36 marks out of 45. What is her score as a percentage?

    Answer: 80%

    36/45 = 4/5 = 80/100, so she scored 80%.

  7. 12% of the 250 pupils in a school wear glasses. How many pupils wear glasses?

    Answer: 30

    1% of 250 is 2.5, so 12% is 12 × 2.5 = 30 pupils.

  8. Write 45% as a fraction in its simplest form.

    Answer: 9/20

45/100 divides by 5 on both sides, giving 9/20.

  9. A shop sold 400 cakes last month. This month sales rose by 25%. How many cakes did it sell this month?

    Answer: 500

    25% of 400 is 100, so this month is 400 + 100 = 500 cakes.

  10. 48 out of 60 pupils passed a test. What percentage did not pass?

    Answer: 20%

    60 − 48 = 12 failed, and 12/60 = 1/5 = 20%.
