Answers and explanations for all 8 questions

Every answer with the reasoning behind it. Worth reading after you have tried the set — or on its own, if you are a parent marking it.

  1. Hafiz is 8 and can swim 25 m. Which stage may he join?

    Answer: Stage 2

Stage 2 asks for 25 m and ages 8 to 12. Hafiz meets both.

  2. A family sends two children, each doing one stage. What is the total fee?

    Answer: $135

One stage is $90, and the second child pays half of that, $45. Together that is $135.

  3. How many sessions will the clinic run altogether?

    Answer: 9

3 to 14 December holds ten weekdays, and one of them, 9 December, has no session — leaving 9.

  4. Which of these does the clinic NOT provide?

    Answer: a swim cap

The swim cap is on the bring-your-own list and marked compulsory; the kickboards and pull buoys are provided.

  5. Mrs Lim is collecting her P2 daughter on 8 October. Where and when should she wait?

    Answer: At Gate B, from 1.15 p.m.

P2 is dismissed at 1.15 p.m., and parents collecting a P1 or P2 child wait at Gate B.

  6. Ravi is in P4. What changes for him in Term 4?

Answer: Nothing — he is dismissed at 1.30 p.m. as before.

The notice says plainly that P3 to P6 are not affected and are dismissed at 1.30 p.m. as usual.

  7. A P2 pupil has a CCA on Tuesday afternoons. Where should she go at 1.15 p.m.?

Answer: straight to her CCA venue

The notice deals with CCA pupils separately: they go straight to the venue, where attendance is taken from 1.20 p.m.

  8. What will happen to dismissal times in January?

Answer: They will go back to what they were before Term 4.

The final line limits the change to Term 4 and says times return to normal in January.
